On January 22, 2006, British Columbia - Canada Place opened its doors in Torino, Italy for the 2006 Winter Games.
BC - Canada Place was a high profile, multi-media meeting place in the centre of Torino. The pavilion featured Canadian business opportunities, travel destinations, technologies and more. Open for the duration of the 2006 Winter Olympics, BC - Canada Place showcased British Columbia and the 2010 Winter Olympics to the world.
PRP Creative Events was pleased to be the Event Producer for the official opening of BC - Canada Place. Working with CEO Annette Antoniak, and the team at the BC Winter Games Olympic Secretariat, PRP developed the pavilion’s initial creative and programming plan. PRP executed the Pavilion’s official opening and special events during the 2006 Winter Olympic Games, which included a Countdown to 2010 event for the Premier of British Columbia.
The opening event was a huge success. More than 250 people filled the beautiful log chalet, joining Minister of Economic Development Colin Hansen in officially opening BC Canada Place to the world.
“With British Columbia - Canada Place, we’ve opened our doors to the world and are inviting them to join us in 2010,” said Hansen. “We are highlighting the enterprise and innovation at work in every corner of the province.”
At the packed opening event, guests lined up to have their picture taken with the BC Spirit Log, a 238-year-old cedar tree that washed ashore near Bella Coola.
Throughout the Torino Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, visitors were encouraged to touch the BC Spirit Log to receive the energy and best wishes from the people of British Columbia, the host province of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
