PRP Creative Sport, in conjunction with the BC Wheelchair Sport Association, was on hand for the 6th annual Rick Hansen Wheels in Motion at the Pacific National Exhibition's Playland site. Despite the rain, over 650 people participated in the 1 km race to raise nearly $100,000 for awareness and support for individuals living with spinal cord injuries.
PRP Creative Sport was pleased to assist the Wheels in Motion Organizing Committee to produce all entertainment and event logistics. Event entertainment included both the opening and closing ceremonies, musical entertainment, on stage entertainment and various interactive booths & events. In addition to the race, teams participated in a wheelchair obstacle course and speed challenge.
"It is an honor to, once again, be a part of such an important fundraising event," said Heather Connell, PRP's Event Manager. "PRP has a long association with the Rick Hansen Foundation, and it's wonderful to contribute our expertise in sport entertainment to help make the event enjoyable for all who attend."
Returning MC's, Global TV anchor Chris Gailus and three-time Paralympian Marni Abott, amused the crowd with witty banter, not to mention rousing dancing during the opening warm up with Fitness World. Roving reporter, CKNW's Kevin Hayes provided updates on team performances throughout the wheelchair race events. Showstoppers and Peggy Peats School of Dance thrilled the audience with singing and dancing, while the Aldergrove High School Jazz Band's tunes kept the participants' adrenalin pumping through the race.
Rick Hansen Wheels in Motion is an annual event to raise funds to "support a wide range of life-enhancing solutions that allow people with spinal cord injuries to fully participate in their community and live life to its full potential."
