Rick Hansen tackles Thermall Hill
May 22, 2007

Vancouver, BC

Twenty years ago today, on the final day of the Man In Motion World Tour, Rick Hansen ascended Port Moody's grueling Thermal Hill, which featured the steepest road incline Hansen encountered on his entire world tour. Today, more than 800 school children from the Rick Hansen School Program joined him as he once again climbed the hill. Hansen says he is happy that the children shared this memorable experience with him because they are the generation that will carry on his legacy of creating an inclusive and accessible Canada and work towards a cure for spinal cord injury.

PRP provided production and logistical support for the Anniversary event at Thermal Hill. "Our team was thrilled to be there at Thermall Hill as Rick recreated that amazing moment" said PRP's Production Coordinator Diane Buirs.

"We still have a long way to go before we can say we've removed every barrier that prevents participation and contribution for those with disabilities, or that everyone can walk away from a spinal cord injury," said Hansen, President and CEO of the Rick Hansen Foundation.

Along with the school children, Hansen was also joined by members of the original Man in Motional World Tour team who traveled more than 40,000 km through 34 countries with him from 1985 to 1987.

"On
the final day of the Tour, I was greeted by an enormous sign that read, The end is just the beginning. I couldn't appreciate the truth of those words in that moment, but 20 years later I can honestly say, that more than anything else, I'm proud of how far we've come in two decades," said Hansen.

Today, The Rick Hansen Foundation works to create more accessible and inclusive communities for people with a spinal cord injury, and supports the search for a cure. The Foundation achieves its goals by connecting the people and resources that make innovation possible.
